Long-term Opportunities

Long-term Service: Live on Mission

God has called us to make His name famous in all the earth, and for some, this means abandoning the American dream and putting down roots in a community that is very different from your own.

Committing to an extended time of service can be daunting. You have to be not only mentally, emotionally, and spiritually healthy, but also well trained to see your passion fulfilled. WGM provides the resources for you to be discipled so that you can go and disciple others.

Your Next Step:

Our Mobilization Team would love to get to know your story and hear how God is leading you.

“God doesn’t always speak to us in flashes of light or booms of thunder. Sometimes we have to wait for the noise to subside so that we can hear His voice in a soft whisper.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the application process take?
The application process includes several steps and does take time. WGM conducts candidate interviews year-round. We work with each individual to help customize the time it takes to complete the application process.
What kind of education do I need to become a missionary?
The answer depends on the ministry and location. Certain ministries, such as medical and some educational, require a college degree while other ministries do not. This also applies to WGM locations. Some countries require a college degree before granting a long-term visa while other countries do not. In general, WGM does not require a specific education but may ask that you take some Bible courses, depending on your background and prior knowledge.
Can I choose the location where I serve and the ministry I am involved in?
WGM will work with each individual, couple, or family to place you where you feel God is calling you. However, the Mobilization staff must work within the locations that are approved by WGM’s Board of Directors and with the approved ministries established in each location. WGM lists available ministry opportunities, but if you don’t see anything on that list that aligns with your passion, we are more than willing to discuss your calling and how it may work on an approved location.
How long will it take to raise enough support?
Our goal is to have you fully funded in 6-9 months. However, it is different for everybody. The size of your family, location or region of service, prior debt, and the amount of time you are able to devote to fundraising activities, can impact this time frame.
How do I support myself and my family while fundraising?
When you are just starting out, you should keep working just as you are today. At first, you’ll schedule support raising activities around your typical work week. Once you have raised about 50% of your total budget, you can begin drawing a missionary salary and start devoting more of your time to raising support.
Do I have to speak to large groups while fundraising?
WGM uses a strategy of support raising that focuses on individual relationship building. This doesn’t mean that you will never speak to large groups or churches, but all support raising activities are self-scheduled, and you can work with your WGM coach to minimize or maximize the number of large group speaking engagements.
