Hello, we’re the Helmicks!

God has called us to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the people of Japan.

About Mike: I grew up in Pennsylvania, going to church with my grandparents. In high school, I drifted from my faith, but God kept reaching out to me. In 2004, during a youth trip to Creation Festival, I gave my life to Christ and felt His call on my life.

A few years later, I hit a low point. A friend invited me to Arkansas, where I stayed at Ecclesia College for three months. God used that time to get my life back on track. I enrolled at Ecclesia, where I learned from incredible ministry leaders and met people from all over the world—including Lu, the woman who would become my wife.

While at Ecclesia, I became a youth pastor and served for 10 years. During that time, we welcomed two wonderful boys. Later, God led us to Pennsylvania and then to Michigan, where I became a senior pastor.

In the summer of 2023, God placed Japan on my heart. As I learned about the deep spiritual need there, I knew this was His call for our family.

About Lu: I’m Lu, from The Bahamas. I came to the U.S. in 2007, attending Ecclesia College to play basketball. In 2009, I gave my life to Christ. Mike and I married, and we served together in youth ministry for 10 years.

When God called Mike to leave Arkansas, He reminded me: “Never plant your roots so deep that you can’t be moved by God.” So, when Mike brought up Japan, I prayed—and God confirmed it through devotionals and sermons.

Why Japan?

Japan is beautiful, but it has a great spiritual need:

• Less than 1% of the population knows Jesus.
• Over 100 million people have never heard the Gospel.
• Half of churches may close by 2030 due to a shortage of pastors.

God has placed Japan on our hearts. Our mission is to:

• Build relationships in local communities
• Assist with pastoring churches
• Equip and train Japanese believers to become pastors

Our goal: To see the people of Japan come to know Jesus!
