Pat Shingledecker

Paul and Pat Shingledecker dedicated 40 years to missionary service with World Gospel Mission, serving in Burundi, Haiti, and on the Support Staff. Both felt called to missions during high school and later met at Asbury College in Kentucky. Their journey began in 1974 in Burundi, where Paul had grown up as a missionary kid. After three years, political changes prevented their return to Burundi. This was a significant disappointment, as they had planned to serve there long-term.
“We almost thought we were finished being missionaries,” Pat shared. “But God told us both: ‘I called you to Me, not to Africa.’”
They were invited to serve in Haiti with Radio Lumière, where they remained for 23 years. Over the years, Radio Lumière faced numerous challenges, including financial difficulties and terrorist attacks. Today, the station continues to spread the Light of Jesus Christ to over 90 percent of Haiti.
Pat taught kindergarten at Quisqueya Christian School, served as mission treasurer, and assisted in administration at Radio Lumière. Their three daughters grew up in Haiti and graduated from high school there.
In 2003, they transitioned to the home office, serving as regional directors for Africa, the U.S., and the Caribbean. After the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, Paul focused on relief and rebuilding efforts. The Shingledeckers retired in 2013, but Paul continued working with Radio Lumière and assisting in the IT Department at WGM’s headquarters until his passing on July 21, 2024. Pat volunteers as a student mentor, at the Pregnancy Help Center, and at their church in Marion, Indiana.
