Asbury Student Involvement Director

Supervision: Director of Mobilization

Job Purpose & Summary:

The purpose of the Student Involvement Director at Asbury University & Theological Seminary is to build relationships with students, challenging them to be a part of what God is doing around the world through cross-cultural missions. Once these individuals are identified, the SI Director will then nurture and coach them, helping them discern their role in the Great Commission and how they can serve specifically with World Gospel Mission. Ultimately, the SI Director will mobilize short-term team members, as well as mid-term and long-term global workers for service with World Gospel Mission and encourage college students toward a strong Great Commission commitment.

Main Responsibilities: 

  1. Represent WGM at university functions and at various locations on campus (dorms, cafeteria, chapel, etc.).
  2. Encourage, answer questions, and maintain good public relations for WGM with students, faculty, administration, and staff at Asbury.
  3. Stay informed of ministry opportunities with WGM and understand WGM’s ministries around the world, mobilizing students to fill those specific ministry opportunities.
  4. Promote, organize, and lead short-term ministry teams, providing adequate follow-up of team members who are interested in future mid- and/or long-term service.
  5. Seek and find prospective mid-term missionaries to serve with WGM, assist them through the application process with consistent follow-up, and refer them to the Midterm Mobilizer.
  6. Seek and find prospective long-term global worker candidates, connect them with the long-term coordinator, and be available to answer any questions as needed.
  7. Develop and oversee a Student Involvement Leadership Team (student leaders) that will help engage the Asbury student body.
  8. Coordinate a weekly student-led missions service (Global Café) and any special WGM activities.
  9. Disciple students, helping them to deepen their relationship with Jesus and his mission.
  10. Arrange campus visits for global workers, mid-termers, and any WGM staff for speaking engagements on or off campus.
  11. Oversee the operation of the WGM Student Involvement Center property and any needed repairs.
  12. Submit regular activity reports to the Director of Mobilization.
  13. Interact and serve the university faculty, administration, and staff in meeting the needs of mobilizing students for the Great Commission.
  14. Connect with university department heads, professors, coaches, and other pertinent staff members to make them aware of possible opportunities with WGM that would align with the career paths of their students.
  15. Assist with mobilization events such as Midterm Orientation and/or Team Leader Training.
  16. Assist the Director of Mobilization in preparing the Student Involvement Center’s annual budget to cover related expenses.
  17. Oversee and supervise the work of the Assistant Student Involvement Director.
  18. Carry out other assignments as requested by Director of Mobilization.

Special Requirements:

  1. Be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
  2. Good moral character
  3. Good physical condition and exceptional interpersonal skills
  4. Reflect WGM’s philosophical concept of human services, which are motivated by a personal commitment to Christian service

Qualifications:

  1. Have a burden for the Gospel, the Great Commission, and the mobilization of new missionaries
  2. Be self-motivated to work in a non-traditional, mobile-office setting
  3. Have excellent public relations skills, both one-on-one and in public speaking situations
  4. Possess quality digital, writing, and communication skills, including social media skills
  5. Hold a BA Degree in Intercultural Studies, Bible, Theology, Christian Ministry, or a related field (preferred)
  6. Exhibit a love and high regard for the younger generations
  7. Experience in pastoral ministry preferred
  8. Experience in college ministry or youth ministry preferred

Note:

This ministry position is in coordination with Asbury University. The employee must be able to work in partnership with WGM and Asbury, promoting the causes of each institution.
