Supervision: Vice President of Advancement
Job Purpose & Summary:
The Major Gifts Officer (MGO) will build relationships with WGM current donors and missionaries on behalf of World Gospel Mission. The goal of this role is to build and cultivate strong, trust-based relationships with donors that lead to increased financial support. This role will focus on growing the caseload count. The MGO will use an ask, thank, and report model with donors where all actions will be tracked in the CRM. This role is vital in helping donors understand the impact they are making in reaching the unreached.

Main Responsibilities:
1. Donor Engagement & Solicitation
- Develop and manage a personal portfolio of 100–150 donors.
- Lead meaningful engagements (calls, visit, emails, and notes) with donors that communicate the impact they are making.
- Coordinate compelling fundraising proposals and presentations that align with the interests and priorities of donors in portfolio.
- Collaborate with missionaries to share stories and impact directly with supporters.
2. Relationship Management & Stewardship
- Establish and execute regular, personalized donor touchpoints (email, calls, visits, notes, etc.).
- Develop donor engagement for Tier 1 donors and provide strategic support for Tier 1 donor relationships involving the President and VP of Advancement & Communications.
- Develop Tier 2 donors that includes systematic outreach and engagement metrics.
- Ensure all communications reflect donor intent and executed with excellence and timeliness (e.g., thank-you letters within 48 hours).
3. System and Strategy Development
- Use CRM (Raisers Edge NXT) tools to track donor activity and engagement, segment portfolios, and measure activity.
- Develop tier-based donor strategies that reflect giving capacity, relationship depth, and spiritual alignment.
- Collaborate with Advancement staff to ensure aligned messaging and strategy across donor segments.
- Contribute to pipeline development for major gifts and new donor identification.
4. Internal Collaboration & Missionary Support
- Be a liaison between missionaries and donors, cultivating trust and enhancing clarity around how WGM supports its people.
- Equip missionaries with tools and language to strengthen donor confidence in the sending organization.
- Coordinate with the Advancement and Communications team to share compelling impact reports, newsletters, and updates.
5. Events & Special Campaigns
- Participate in donor cultivation events such as small gatherings, vision trips, or local meetups. There may be events assigned for which this role will run lead for the event details.
- Recruit hosts and partners for engagement events when appropriate.
- Represent WGM at strategic donor meetings, external events, conferences, and networking opportunities to expand the WGM donor network and visibility.
6. Other
- Stay informed about industry best practices, trends, and emerging opportunities in major gifts fundraising.
- Assist VP of Advancement and Communications as needed.
Special Requirements:
- Experience in cross-cultural ministry and/or missions service is helpful.
- Ability to track details and grow a strategy and system that supports and measures the strategy.
- Ability to travel within the U.S.
- Have exceptional interpersonal skills, being able to work with people of different types of personality.
- Have a track record that reflects servant leadership, which is motivated by a personal commitment to Christian service.
- Ability to engage and influence a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships.
- A strong collaborator who is a team player with the Executive Team, missionaries, and other employees.
- Be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field. Master's degree preferred.
- A committed Christ-follower with a heart for global missions and the mission and values of WGM.
- Demonstrated success of 5+ years in soliciting major gifts, or new donor opportunities.
- Experience in Christian missionary or non-profit organization.
- Proven track record of identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors/gifts.
- Excellent interpersonal, relationship-building skills and communication skills including written, verbal, and presentation abilities.
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution.
- Strong storytelling ability and emotional intelligence.
- Understanding of missionary support models and church-based giving culture a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and build effective partnerships.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Raisers Edge NXT CRM experience is desired.
