Payroll/Benefits Specialist

Job Title: Payroll/Benefits Specialist

Supervision: Director of Human Resources

Job Purpose & Summary: The Payroll/Benefits Specialist is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll administration while supporting cost accounting functions, labor analysis, and compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. Responsible for having overall knowledge of all human resources functions. Provides exceptional communication and service to employees.

Location: Headquarters Office (Marion, Indiana)

Employment Status: Full-time

FLSA Status: Nonexempt

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Timely and accurate payroll processing for monthly and bi-weekly payrolls.
  2. Process employee Time and Attendance data to payroll and reconcile variances. Approve and release time in the time system.
  3. Reconcile payroll accounts and prepare payroll journal entries.
  4. Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities related to payroll and labor expenses.
  5. Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly payroll reports.
  6. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
  7. Support audits by providing payroll documentation and reconciliations.
  8. Maintain benefit hours (vacation, sick, holiday, etc.)
  9. Develop in-depth understanding of payroll/HR software (PayCor).
  10. Ensure the retirement plan contributions and payments are correctly applied to payroll.
  11. Assist in all employee benefit programs such as medical, dental, vision, life, disability, retirement plans.
  12. Generate and develop reports from Paycor to enhance data collection.
  13. Carry out other assignments as requested by supervisor.

  2. High attention to detail and strong analytical skills
  3. Ability to maintain confidentiality
  4. Should reflect WGM’s philosophical concept of human services which are motivated by a personal commitment to Christian service
  5. Willingness to obtain Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification

Qualifications:

  1. Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field preferred
  2. 3+ years of payroll processing experience
  3. Experience with cost accounting and labor allocations
  4. Thorough knowledge of federal, state and local employment laws and regulations
  5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel skills including formulas, pivot tables and reporting
