Jim and Martha Ritchie

Jim and Martha Ritchie have experienced a remarkable journey of faith and service with WGM. Their obedience to God’s call, forged through years of prayer and preparation, led them to Chogoria, Kenya, where their ministry impacted countless lives.
Jim’s career as a Navy ER physician and his connection with the Christian Medical and Dental Association opened doors to missions. His first trip to Kenya revealed a deep need for medical training, and God’s call became clear through an invitation to help establish a Family Medicine Residency program at Chogoria Hospital.
The transition to Kenya was not without challenges. Leaving three older children in the U.S. while bringing their younger three required immense faith. Martha navigated the family’s adjustments and supported her children through grief and growth, learning to entrust them to God. Over time, they flourished, even embracing boarding school—a decision that reshaped Martha’s role and deepened her reliance on God’s provision.
The Ritchies’ ministry was rooted in building relationships and creating community. Jim’s medical expertise transformed healthcare training, while Martha’s “ministry of presence” touched every corner of the Chogoria community. From hosting Bible studies and language classes to establishing a pediatric play area and mentoring new missionaries, Martha’s initiatives reflected her heart for service. Together, they built a culture of care and collaboration that continues to thrive.
Their faith journey was marked by trust in God’s faithfulness. They witnessed miraculous answers to prayer: healing patients, providing resources for the hospital, and sustaining their family through trials. God used their time in Kenya not only to bless others but also to deepen their spiritual walk and reveal His extravagant grace.
As they begin this new chapter, the Ritchies will continue to serve. Martha remains involved in WGM’s Member Care and Samaritan’s Purse, while Jim equips global medical missionaries. Together, they support Afghan refugees, enjoy family time, and look forward to new opportunities to glorify God.
