100 Days to the field

Has God called you to the mission field, but you’re not sure how to start fundraising? Maybe you have an idea of how to raise your support, but giving one to two years of your life to that goal seems frightening. But at WGM, our 100 in 100 program helps demystify fundraising and accelerate the process of raising support. The program helps participants raise 100% of their support within 100 business days.
Josh McKinley went through the program and saw its effectiveness. In high school, he felt the call to missions, and God then directed him to full-time ministry in Japan. When he first applied with WGM, he was living in Japan, teaching English at several local schools. He knew he wanted to complete his fundraising in a year, which would allow him to continue as a teacher when he returned and take him back sooner to the people God had called him to serve. That’s when he heard of 100 in 100.
Josh began his journey with a week-long intensive training called BUILD where he met many missionaries and instructors and was given all the tools necessary to complete his goals. He felt supported by these coaches, and they gave him the encouragement he needed. The training didn’t stop there, however, for he had a personal coach meet with him weekly until he had completed the program. He approached each day with intense dedication, but ultimately, he had to trust that God would faithfully provide for him. “Trust that the result is dependent on God’s faithfulness, but work as if the result is dependent on your faithful obedience,” Josh said. With this prayerful drive and focus, he began raising the funds.
Many chose to support him, but he also received multiple rejections. Some months, everything moved quickly; at other times, he questioned himself due to the lack of momentum, even though he continued to put in the same amount of effort. Even with that discouragement, he persevered and began to see many who initially said, "No," change their minds towards the end of the 100 days. God’s faithfulness continued to work in the lives of those with whom he had spoken.
While Josh’s process yielded great support, some of the challenges seemed daunting at first. He questioned his ability to complete the program. He remembered the struggle to focus on anything but the numbers, which fed into his fears. Thankfully, despite his doubts and fears, he had many who held him accountable and pushed him to be faithfully obedient to God, and to trust the process and keep moving. He saw that the fears would diminish the more he trusted in God’s provision and presence.
One of Josh’s favorite moments from his time during the program was when he took a weekend getaway from his fundraising. It was a slower month, he recalled, and he decided to get his mind off the numbers for a few days. He received an opportunity to do some setup work with a florist team for a major wedding in South Carolina. As he worked, he found that some of the other workers on the florist team were from Japan. This moment reminded him again of his mission and refreshed him to continue driving toward the end of the program.
If you or someone you know are looking for a way to raise support, but you're intimidated by the thought of fundraising for an extended time, consider WGM's 100 in 100 plan. Let Josh's success, along with the countless others before him, give you the encouragement you need to build a ministry team that will walk with you as you faithfully obey God's call to go to the rest of the world.
