THE CALL: 2026–2027    |    2 MINUTE READ
JOHN RINEHIMER, PRESIDENT

When I was a student at Asbury University, I heard WGM missionaries Tony Lee, Terry and Karen Duncan, and Jonathan and Lisa Mayo share stories of God at work in Asia and Africa. As I listened, Jesus used their stories to open my eyes to a bigger vision of life in Him.

That experience has stayed with me because it captures something important about awakening. Awakening begins when we encounter the heart of Jesus and begin to see who He created us to be and the part He is inviting us to play in His mission.

The words on the cover of this issue of The Call express our vision for the years ahead: Awakening every nation to the heart and mission of Jesus. It is more than we could accomplish through our own effort. But as we abide in the Father’s love and become more like Jesus, the Holy Spirit empowers us to participate in what He is doing around the world.

Before Jesus gives us His mission, He gives us Himself.

As I step into this new season of leadership at World Gospel Mission, I am grateful for those who have faithfully served and sacrificed over the past 116 years. Our leadership team has spent significant time praying and listening, and again and again, we have sensed God guiding us toward this vision.

Before Jesus gives us His mission, He gives us Himself. My prayer is that as you read these stories, Jesus will awaken something fresh in you, just as He did in me through the stories of missionaries so many years ago.

Thankful for you,
John
