1 Thessalonians 5:17
“Be unceasing and persistent in prayer.” (AMP)
“Pray without ceasing.” (ESV)
“Never stop praying.” (ERV)
“Pray constantly.” (CSB)
This is how our prayer lives should be. Constant conversation with our Lord. At WGM, one of our core values is prayer, and we’ve sought to prioritize it for the last 116 years. We know many of you are already faithful warriors for missionaries across the world, and we would love for you to continue to join us in this important missions work.
These prompts are a way to guide you as you pray for God's work across the nations. Our missionaries need your prayers! Consider this as something you can use as you go throughout your day: when you first get up, are waiting in traffic, or right before bed. May it deepen your relationship with Christ as you do so.
Grab your Bible and open it up to John 15:1-17 and Matthew 28:16-20. These will be the base of the prayer guide this year as we learn to abide in Christ so that every nation may be awakened to the heart and mission of Jesus. Prayer is the real work of missions!
1 | ABIDE
Verse: John 15:4 “Abide in me, and I in you.”
Prompt: Lord, I pray that [missionary name] will abide in you today and this week.
2 | FRUIT
Verse: John 15:8 “By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples.”
Prompt: Lord, I pray that as [missionary name] abides in you, you will produce much fruit within their life.
3 | JOY
Verse: John 15:11 “These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.”
Prompt: Lord, today I pray for joy. Fill [missionary name] with joy that can only come from you! May others notice this joy so that it leads to Gospel conversations.
4 | LOVE
Verse: John 15:12-15 “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.”
Prompt: Lord, please give [missionary name] words of grace, truth, and love today in their interactions and conversations. Help them love those around you as you loved first, remembering that those they encounter are image bearers, too.
5 | GO
Verse: Matthew 28:16-20 "Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.’”
Prompt: Lord, I pray for those who are not yet on the field. Might you encourage the hearts of the young and old to go and make disciples?
