JACE MARTIN, Updated by SHEA BROWN November 2025

This advent series walks you through Jesus’ birth from the perspective of Philippians 2:5–11, where Paul describes Jesus’ advent on earth. You'll hear four WGM global workers tell stories from a lifetime of service and draw real-life connections from the passage. We've also included a unique Christmas activity at the end of each devotional that you can do by yourself, with friends, or as a family!

Our Call to Go

Twice a year, a new group of missionaries gather for their commissioning service—some have just begun to build their partner team, others have already packed their bags.

But these sisters and brothers all have one thing in common: they’ve obeyed the call to go. It’s a thrilling ceremony, and it calls to mind Jesus’ own obedience in coming to earth.

It’s His obedience that results in a call for all of us to go, to tell others His story. While going looks different for each of us—we each have opportunities to imitate Jesus’s sacrifice for God’s glory.

To that end, this advent devotional will walk through Jesus’ birth from the perspective of Philippians 2:5–11, where Paul describes Jesus’ advent on earth:

In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.
And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!
Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Prepare for the Christmas season through a globally minded lens and open your heart to the hope found in His unconditional love.
