Tenwek Hospital: Children’s Surgery Compassion Fund
Many of the parents who bring their children to Tenwek struggle to pay for the visits to the hospital, let alone the surgical care they need. This fund is used solely to pay surgical bills for select kids at Tenwek Hospital (no other admin fees or use). Choosing kids to help is an impossible effort, but we do the best we can. Often those most in need are children with cancer who had a sudden need for surgery. Cancer surgery ranges from $300 for a simple biopsy to $800 for a routine removal of a tumor to $2,000–3,000 for a complex operation requiring ICU care. We average five children each month requiring such surgery with probably half being able to pay.
