Kenya & Uganda: UDM Business Manager

Opportunity

The Business Manager will manage, grow, and launch businesses for University Discipleship Movement.

Qualifications

A passion for advancing God’s mission and serving in a cross-cultural context.

Ideal Business Manager competencies include:

  • Relationship with God: Commitment to Christ as Lord and Savior and demonstrating growth and consistency in walk with God. One whose character is beyond reproach.
  • Servant Leadership: A heart for God that is demonstrated in humility and love for people including staff, clients, and service providers.
  • Evangelism and Discipleship: Experience in discipleship and mentorship will be an added advantage, especially with young people.
  • Academic qualification and experience: Possess a degree in business administration or its related subject and have relevant experience in launching, managing, and growing a successful, sustainable, and transformational business.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate and relate well, capacity to network and forge partnerships.

Ministry Description

The Business Manager will manage, grow, and launch businesses in East Africa that includes student housing, pastries business, and coffee shops. These businesses are meant to be run professionally and profitably with a goal of generating revenue to support UDM’s vision and mission. We expect the business manager to provide advice on the best way to invest and run this business. Most importantly we pray that these businesses will provide ongoing discipleship and mentorship for all who are employed and volunteering in these businesses. 

This role will provide oversight for the businesses and provide leadership for the employees (hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating), maintaining company finances, financial systems, marketing, and communications, and developing and maintaining a business network in the region. All these will be done in line with UDM’s vision, mission, values, and policies. 

UDM already runs three businesses:

  • Simply Donuts (Kampala) 
  • Endiro Coffee - Coffee and pastries bar in Mombasa and Nairobi, Kenya
  • Safe Haven Girls Hostel (Kampala)
