Opportunity

A facility and property manager is needed to maintain and care for the grounds and facilities at The Center in Stockton, California, ensuring spaces are safe, welcoming, and ready for daily programs.

Responsibilities

• Routine Upkeep & Janitorial Care: Perform regular walkthroughs to clean, sanitize, and maintain main program areas, restrooms, and common spaces so they are ready for daily youth activities.
• Property Maintenance: Handle general repairs, light carpentry, painting, basic plumbing fixes, and ongoing groundskeeping or lawn care.
• Purchasing & Inventory: Monitor, order, and restock facility supplies, janitorial cleaning products, paper goods, and maintenance equipment while staying within budget.
• Space Setup: Assist with setting up and tearing down furniture and equipment for after-school activities, food distributions, and special community events.
• Outdoor Lot Preparation: Help prepare and maintain our outdoor back lot area for future youth sports, games, and outdoor events.
• Community Engagement & Recreation: Help prepare, open, and facilitate informal neighborhood activities, such as hosting weekly drop-in basketball nights on our half-court for local youth and adults.

Qualifications

• Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfort working outdoors in seasonal weather and spending extended periods walking, standing, bending, or climbing ladders.
• Practical & Technical Skills
  • Experience with basic facility maintenance, janitorial standards, and minor repairs (light carpentry, painting, basic plumbing) is preferred, but a strong willingness to learn is welcomed.
  • Familiarity with lawn care, groundskeeping, and the safe operation of basic power tools and lawn equipment (or a desire to learn).
  • Ability to manage supply purchasing, track inventory, and shop within an assigned budget.
• Personal & Organizational Skills
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks independently.
  • Good communication skills and a friendly demeanor around youth, staff, and community members.
  • Basic organizational skills to keep maintenance closets, tools, and inventory clean and organized.

Training Provided

• General Guidance & On-the-Job Orientation: We will provide hands-on orientation to help you get familiar with our facilities, safety protocols, equipment, and routine maintenance schedules.
• Ongoing Support: Staff will be available to answer questions, prioritize tasks with you, and offer ongoing direction as you settle into the role. No specialized trade certification is required, just a willingness to learn!

Language Requirements

Conversational Spanish skills are a plus to help connect with local families and community members, but are not required.

Length of Service

• Mid-term: 1 – 12 months
• Long-term: 2 or more years

Ministry Description

The Center serves youth and families in Stockton through after-school programs, mentorship, counseling, and community resource distribution. Our facilities and grounds are heavily utilized every week by kids, staff, and neighborhood families. Having clean, well-maintained, safe, and beautiful spaces (including our outdoor back lot) is essential to creating an environment where our community feels welcomed, valued, and cared for.
