Texas/Mexico Border Ministries: Community Outreach Facilitator
Opportunities
In Laredo, you will have the opportunity to use your gifts to build ministries from the ground up. The Laredo Church of Christ in Christian Union was founded by missionaries in 1945 in a lower class to lower middle-class neighborhood. While the emphasis on reaching the community has varied throughout the years, the current pastor and congregation are excited about community outreach, evangelism, and discipleship. In addition to the church building, there is a one-story building on the property that can be refurbished to house a number of ministries.
Currently, the church offers children and youth ministries, a men’s group, a ladies’ Bible study, a discipleship class, and English as Second Language (ESL) classes. They have hosted outreach ministries to the homeless and neighborhood children. Some ideas for future ministries include:
- Tutoring for all ages, including GED preparation
- Thrift store
- Library and story time
- Food pantry
- Bible studies and Discipleship classes
This is not an exhaustive list!
