Honduras: El Sembrador Church Repairs

In the mid 1980s, El Sembrador experienced one of its wettest rainy seasons on record. One Sunday morning, students busily hurried to get ready for church to avoid being late for the service. After the closing hymn and prayer, students and staff filed out after saying their goodbyes and headed toward lunch. A few hours later, the torrential rains that had not ceased for many hours took their toll on the weary old church, and the west wall gave way. The wall crumbled, and the only thing entering the minds of those present was, “Thank the Lord no one was in the church. If it had fallen a few hours earlier…the story would have ended differently.”

El Sembrador made a plea to supporters around the United States for help as they sought to construct a new church. In short order, God supplied everything needed to build the famous structure on campus today. This building is strong and will remain a pillar of campus for decades; however, over the years, some building pieces have begun to deteriorate. We praise God for the generosity of churches like yours, which enabled us to replace the ceiling. Our ceiling tiles were quite literally falling down, but now, we will have a brand-new ceiling and lights for the next many years!

While remodeling the ceiling, we noted how much damage our floors have sustained from shifting tree roots. There are literal hills in our church floor. To remove the old floor, level the hills, pour a new subfloor, and repair the structure of our altar, we need $20,000.

This year alone, over 30 students and staff have come to accept the Lord as their personal Savior at the foot of this altar. El Sembrador’s church has been a comforting place to encounter the Lord and his grace for generations. Would you consider contributing toward the replacement of the floor and sealing the spots where the bats get in? The current church building boasts roughly 40 years of serving our El Sembrador family. It will continue to serve for decades, if the Lord allows it. Imagine all those who will come to know their heavenly Father in this place. Please consider contributing toward this lasting investment in the very heart of El Sembrador’s campus.
