Choluteca: Lizzie Scholarship
An annual gift of $150 or $1,000 provides a student in Honduras with a year’s education. However, making a gift of any amount is an investment of eternal significance.
Lizzie Project Scholarship Levels
Kindergarten–9th Grade
Scholarship cost and what it covers:
- $150 per year
- Pays for school books, uniforms, and supplies
Facts about the program and the importance of your support:
- If children cannot afford their uniforms or books, they are not allowed to attend school.
- The Honduras government provides free school up to the 9th grade, only if a child can afford a uniform and books.
- In Honduras, when a child completes the 6th grade, they will frequently drop out.
10th–12th Grade (High School)
Scholarship cost and what it covers:
- $150 per year
- Pays for school books, uniforms, supplies, and some other expenses
Facts about the program and the importance of your support:
- Outlying villages provide education through 9th grade. Attendance in High School requires travel into a nearby city or town.
- Drop-out rates are high because students need to work to bring income to their families.
- High School is more like vocational school, focusing on the students’ abilities and interests.
Vocational Education Center
Scholarship cost and what it covers:
- $1,000 per year
- Pays for tuition
Facts about the program and the importance of your support:
- In operation since 2006.
- Offered to the neediest youth in the region.
- Trains approximately 200 students per academic year
Choluteca Nursing School: Formal Education
Scholarship cost and what it covers:
- $1,000 per year
- Pays for books, supplies, and living expenses
Facts about the program and the importance of your support:
- High school level Nursing School: first of its kind in Honduras!
- Starts with first year of high school but will progress to be three-year program.
- In collaboration with the Ohio State University College of Nursing.
- Fulfills the country’s desperate need for trained, certified nurses.
- Entrepreneurial program will be replicated throughout the country.
