Kenya: Tenwek Hospital Rheumatic Heart Disease Screening

Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) is a cardiac heart disease affecting the heart valves following long term effects of Group A Streptococcus infection of the throat and skin. Tenwek Hospital Department of Cardiology and the cardiac clinic have encountered late-stage Rheumatic Heart Disease in Heart Failure status in many patients in the age range of 5 to 24 years and greater. This is evidenced with the large number of heart valve replacement surgeries done at Tenwek Hospital because of RHD.
Here is how you can partner with this project in Kenya:
PRAY: The RHD Screening Program is working diligently to reverse this trend by raising awareness, offering education, and conducting life-saving echocardiographic screenings in schools and high-risk communities free of charge. We also use our outreaches to further the work of the Gospel by sharing the Good News during the outreaches and especially with patient/parents of those affected. Please pray for healing, early detection, the success of these initiatives, and for the strength and compassion of the medical teams working to bring hope and health to those affected.
GIVE: We invite you to consider giving towards the fight against Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) to reduce the burden of this disease by creating awareness, educating communities, and conducting vital echocardiographic screenings in schools and areas with high prevalence. Your support will help prevent irreversible damage, save lives, and bring health and hope to the next generation.
Raising awareness and offering education in schools and high-risk communities is an important part of this ministry.
