The Choluteca Vocational School in Honduras  serves 200 students ranging in age from 15 to 29 and provides programs for a variety of skills and occupations. Programs include a two-year auto mechanic track—the school’s most popular and effective program—and training in welding, sewing, consumer sciences, and sales. The cost of tuition is $1,000 per year.

Director Osman Echeverria stresses that one of the most important ministries of the school is its ability to reach the largely unchurched students through Bible classes and morning prayer. “It’s a great opportunity to share the word of God,” said Osman.

One student named Henry wakes up at 4:00 every morning and travels over an hour to the school. He says simply, “It’s worth it,” and he loves that they start the day with prayer. Osman himself recounts how his “life was changed because of education, and because someone else paid a scholarship for me to study.”

The need for vocationally-based education in Honduras is great. Over 70% of teens ages 15-17 are not in any kind of school, which has serious implications in their earning potential later in life. Education is key to breaking the cycle of poverty.

“Our students are doing everything they can to change their future,” said Osman.

Partner with Choluteca Vocational School:

Pray: Pray for the salvation of students, the spiritual growth of staff, and political stability throughout Honduras.

Give: You can be a part of providing students at Choluteca Vocational School with the education they need to succeed. Travel provides one of the greatest challenges at Choluteca Vocational School, with some students taking as many as three buses to reach the school and coming from several towns away. Specific needs of the school include furniture, new equipment, and space for the autobody shop. A gift of $1,000 provides tuition for one student for a year. Thank you for your partnership!
